![]() I assumed this would just be another sweet romance. She initially comes off as cold, insecure, and a little too much of a know-it-all.īut like every good love story, she grows on me as the book progresses, and her evolving relationship with Raul (and his unending patience for her) holds the story together on its own, despite the adventure and suspense nicely layered between the build-up. It's Victoria, by contrast, that I don't particularly like in the beginning. He really is a good guy trying to make the right choices. Raul, compared to some of Dodd's other leading male characters, really starts out as likable (and not just a tortured brute, jerk, thick-headed beast, etc.). Usually, it's the strong heroine that lulls me in, but this book surprised me. What hooked me into this story wasn't the heroine, but her soon-to-be lover, Raul. Dodd dangled an excerpt on her Facebook page (she always gets me that way!). In lieu of something darker, I grabbed a copy of this after Ms. There's nothing better to waste away the winter doldrums than a good book. ![]()
